The month of this year’s edition of FESPA Africa/ Africa Print shows is particularly symbolic as it is the month that honours one of Africa’s great leaders – Dr. Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela (fondly called Madiba). It is the month of Mandela Day.

Nelson Mandela International Day was launched in recognition of Nelson Mandela’s birthday on 18 July, 2009 via unanimous decision of the UN General Assembly. It was inspired by a call Nelson Mandela made a year earlier, for the next generation to take on the burden of leadership in addressing the world’s social injustices when he said “it is in your hands now”. It is more than a celebration of Madiba’s life and legacy. It is a global movement to honour his life’s work and act to change the world for the better.

Nigeria VIP Delegates also took time out to honour the great statesman by visiting the historic former abode of Madiba at 8115 Orlando West, Soweto (South West Township). Not only that, they also visited landmark areas of Johannesburg, Soweto among others – and more importantly, they commit to make every day – a Mandela Day. Here are pictures from the visit as we join South Africa in celebrating 20 years of democratic freedom.
