The Institute of Packaging, Nigeria (IOPN) will in 2014 hold three General Meetings to strategically align and carry members along of the Institute’s objectives and action plans for a successful Year 2014. This was part of IOPN 2014 Plans as presented by IOPN President – Mr. Mike Adekola at the Annual General Meeting where activities, challenges and successes of the outgoing Year 2013 were discussed.
The President also notified the house that the Institute was about to finalise partnership with Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), National Agency for Food Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Federal Institute of Industrial Research Oshodi (FIIRO), and Montgomery West Africa – organisers of Propak West Africa exhibition, among others – with a view to improve packaging practice and business in Nigeria. Council Members that also presented their stewardship and plans for 2014 are Vice President/ Education Secretary – Mrs. Kofo Ajelabi and General Secretary – Alh. Ahmed Omah.
In a related development, packaging professionals have been advised to adapt their packaging innovations to solve the challenges of the local market in order to succeed. This advice was from Heidelberg Nigeria Limited Managing Director – Mr. Jakob Bejer, while giving his keynote address on ‘Packaging Printing Machinery: Opportunity and Challenges’. He noted that practitioners should, “think globally but adapt (their thinking) to the local market”.
Held at the premises of Heidelberg Nigeria Limited (exclusive sponsor of 2013 IOPN AGM), the event was also graced by Managing Directors of Studio Press PLC, NAMPAK Cartons Nigeria and Montgomery West Africa – Mr. Roger Sherlow, Mr. Andrew Loggie, and Ms. Tori Abiola respectively amongst others.
