…..HOLDS 12TH NIGERIA INTERNATIONAL BOOK FAIR 2013
Veteran publisher – Mr. Gbenro Adegbola – has enjoined Federal Government of Nigeria to take a cue from other developed countries and invest more in Knowledge Economy as vehicle for sustainable growth and development of the Nigerian economy.
Adegbola who is the Managing Director/ CEO of First Veritas Educational Content Delivery Limited made this appeal while delivering his keynote address at the 12th Nigeria International Book Fair held from 6th to 11th May 2013 at the Multi-purpose Halls of University of Lagos with the theme: INVESTMENT IN THE KNOWLEDGE ECONOMY AS A VEHICLE FOR SUSTAINABLE GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT IN AFRICA.
He believed that the only way for Nigeria to grow was to explore the benefits of knowledge-based institutions like those in the publishing industry that have helped store and share information for centuries. To him, “civilizations have always operated on a knowledge-innovation-technical change process. Globalization and the technological revolution have helped nations and companies use ICT to exploit scientific and technical knowledge bases to give them an unprecedented competitive edge on such a scale as to shift and reshape the pattern of the world’s economic growth and activity”.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Occasion – Dr. Christopher Kolade (CON) – former Nigeria High Commissioner to the United Kingdom who declared the exhibition opened advised all stakeholders – especially Africans – to invest in Knowledge Economy for a prosperous, real and sustainable transformation of the African economy. And while making her remarks, former Governor of Anambra State – H.E Dame Virgy Etiaba called on leaders especially in the political arena to focus more on educational development of the people which she noted – was the best dividends of democracy to the people.
