Chartered Institute of Professional Printers of Nigeria (CIPPON) has appealed to law enforcement agencies in the country to beam their searchlight on and enforce the provisions of the law on Local Content Act of the Printers Act No 24 of 2007 especially in government and its agencies as well as indigenous patronage of local printers in Nigeria; and correct payment of duty and tariffs on printing machineries and consumables as approved by the government.

At a press briefing recently, CIPPON noted that this would address the problems faced by employers of labour in the printing industry as printing is one of the largest employers of labour in Nigeria. To CIPPON, ‘this will empower employers of labour to create more jobs, promote the establishment of companies that manufactures printing consumables for example paper mills, printing ink manufacturing companies and so on. All these shall lead to creation of more employment to skilled and the unskilled workforce in Nigeria’.

In a related development, CIPPON describes Nigeria’s printing of Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire currencies as a good omen for the industry. According to its President/ Chairman-In-Council, Mr. Wahab A. O. Muhammed Lawal in an interactive session with WHERE To Print, this attests to Nigeria Printers professionalism and level of development which are further confirmation to Nigeria’s leadership position in the region. According to him, “when we talk about professionalism and world class equipments, Nigeria has gone far. This is an economic benefit and confirmation to our leadership position. It is also a testimony to print buyers that Nigerian Printers are capable of handling any printing jobs, instead of taking them to Dubai or any other country. If Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire can contract the printing of their currencies to us, it is a proof and confirmation that Nigeria Printers are capable of handling anything printing jobs” he said while calling on CIPPON members to rally round the Institute in order to realise the lofty objectives of CIPPON for the industry in this 2015 Business Year.
