CALLING ON NIGERIA PRINTERS TO ENTER THE 2017 FESPA AWARDS

fespa-award-1The FESPA Awards Programme is renowned across the industry for their outstanding recipients, judged by industry experts who in turn have contributed significant advances to the techniques and technology across the industry. Printers from Africa are encouraged to enter.

2016 saw more than 400 print experts gather in Amsterdam to celebrate the very best of their industry. With more than 350 entries across 15 categories, an incredible shortlist and culminating in a spectacular black tie dinner, the FESPA Print Excellence Awards are where stars are created, and importantly new business contacts and relationships are made.

LCCI PRINTING, PUBLISHING AND ALLIED GROUP CALLS FOR SUPPORT OF LOCAL INDUSTRIES

Entrants for the 2017 Awards have until 27th January 2017 to submit their work. The final judging will take place on 1st and 2nd March 2017 and the winners will be announced alongside the FESPA 2017 exhibition in Hamburg at the FESPA Gala Dinner.

CATEGORIES
Within each category the entrant can choose from one of these sub categories:
1. Digital printing only.
2. Screen printing only.
3. Mixed techniques (offset + digital or + screen, or digital + screen, etc.)
4. Non-printed.
SPECIFICALLY
1. Point of Purchase Products: printing on paper and board, including paper banners and backlit papers.
2. Point of Purchase Products: printed on all types of plastics, including plastic banners and backlit plastic + lenticular, plastic printing in sheets, flexible or rigid.
3. Posters, single sheets and multi-sheets.
4. Original Serigraphies and Giclees and Fine Art reproductions, books and brochures.
5. Decals, printed labels, fleet marking, window decals etc.
6. Special effect screen printed over offset, digital or screen printed images and other innovative applications.
7. Special effect on T-shirts and other garments, including embroidery, additions of pearls, metal, circuitry etc.
8. T-shirts and other garments like direct printing, transfers and roll-to-roll.
9. Roll-to-roll printed textile for decoration and pennants, banners, tapestries, draperies, other textile products (e.g. bags, scarves, ties, etc).
10. Glass, ceramic, metal and wood products e.g. tableware, tiles, glasses, mirrors curved and flat, direct printing, decals, glass and ceramic, metal and wood products, signs and objects.
11. Direct printing on three dimensional products, bottles, mugs, skis, packaging etc.
12. Non Printed Signage – channel lettering, neon signs, sign writing, etching, engraving and dimensional signage, acrylics and non-printed vinyl etc.
13. Miscellaneous: compact discs, credit and phone cards, automobiles, IMD, fascias, dials, nameplates, signs, gauges etc Printed Circuits and membrane switches, hybrid circuits, RFIDs, solar cells etc.

YOUNG STAR
This award is separate from the main award entries. The young star award is marked across all the categories. This award is open to those aged 15-25 working as a junior employee or student in any print related discipline. This includes; apprentices, interns and students including college, graduate or post-graduate students in part or full time education. The winner will pick up a cheque for €1000 and it’s a great promotional opportunity to show off your skills and add the experience to your CV.

ADDITIONAL CATEGORIES:
People’s Choice Award

This award is separate from the main award entries in that it cannot be entered directly. This will be judged by the community. All shortlisted entries are eligible. Voting is easy. You may vote for any of the shortlisted entries from 6th February 2017 – 6th March 2017. An entry which does not win in its original category or categories is still eligible for this award.

Best in Show Award
This award will be selected across all the categories and decided and agreed by all Judges.

JUDGING CRITERIA
1. Excellence in execution of print quality and technical expertise (relevant to the application).
a. Image definition, precision (registration) and sharpness (0-20 points).
b. Colour appearance (0-20 points).
2. Appropriate use of techniques, design, media, and creativity for the application (choice of print and techniques to meet the objectives of the project).
a. Job complexity (0-30 points).
b. Product use (0-10 points).
c. Creativity, Aesthetical aspect (0-10 points).
3. Selling efficiency/ROI for the end-user of the printed item(s) (0-10 points).

HOW TO ENTER
Stage 1: Complete the application form before January 27th 2017.
Stage 2: Send your entry to your local drop off points (see below addresses) before January 27th.

* WHERE To Print: 3, Olowologbon Street, Off Egbeda-Akowonjo Road, Sobo Bus Stop, Akowonjo – Lagos.

DATES TO REMEMBER:
* 27 January 2017: closing date for entries.
* 6 February 2017: entries showcased on fespa.com and public voting opens for ‘the people’s choice award’.
* 22 February 2017: entries must arrive for judging.
* 1-2 March 2017: judging of entries.
* 6 March 2017: People’s Choice Award closes for voting and shortlist announced.
* 8-12 May 2017: all shortlisted entries displayed at FESPA Hamburg exhibition.
* 12 May 2017: reclaim your entry from 2pm at the awards exhibition- any entries not collected will not be returned.
