The recent lull in the economy has not affected the print and packaging sector – in fact, it has contributed immensely to innovation and new business development of which knowledge is a critical factor. This is the submission of Mr. Tony Imomoh – MD/ CEO of Print Academy Consulting LTD while answering questions from trade press during a press conference at the just concluded production and prepress management training in commercial and newspaper business tagged ADVANCED PROFESSIONAL PRINT MANAGEMENT TRAINING held at ibis Hotel, Ikeja Lagos on 25th and 26th October, 2016.
The Print Academy boss believes that Nigerian Print and Packaging Industries are not in recession as there is always one form of print or packaging to do. He noted that, “For instance, Nigeria today is focused more on agriculture which will need packaging. There’s also pharmaceutical packaging, and other forms of printing such as gravure, labeling and garment printing. Printing does not stop at offset printing alone, the industry is still moving on strongly as foreign investors are still trooping into the country”, which informed Print Academy partnership with Leicester College, UK on capacity development in the industry.
According to Imomoh: “There is no better time to plan than during recession because recession will not last forever. So training like this during a time of recession helps you plan on what kind of investment you should venture into; specifically, how you can manage your colours to reduce cost of production; what type of paper stock to have, and so on – so that when there is economic boom, you are ahead of your competition. Therefore, knowledge anytime, any day is important.”
Collaborating Tony Imomoh, the Leicester College UK Facilitators – Mr. Alex Bond and Mr. Chris Spooner also enjoined print and allied stakeholders to take training seriously in order to stay ahead of the competition. They also disclosed plan for various courses in the school in the United Kingdom for interested participants just as Print Academy will be holding training quarterly along with print seminars across the country. “From time to time, we will be having strategic training activities. This maiden edition is a launch pad to showcase what Print Academy Consulting can do”, disclosed Imomoh as he acknowledge with gratitude, industry support for Print Academy initiative of establishing world-class, practical capacity development Centre with support from sponsors and big players in the industry who cherish training. “The likes of Heidelberg, Agfa, Technology Global Services, etc have been supportive. Some have given us a DI machine, CTP machine to use in our Centre. In the next two quarters, we should have the Print Academy Centre in Lagos”, he disclosed.
