Canon U.S.A., Inc., has been one of PRINTING United Expo’s biggest supporters, making significant contributions in extensive space use, industry collaboration, and consistent high-level sponsorship as ‘Title Sponsor’, which represents the highest level of sponsorship. In this SPECIAL FEATURE INTERVIEW conducted at the 1:1 Speed Meeting during PRINTING United Media Day with the Canon duo – Lucy Perez-Sierra and Bob Barbera, find out what inspires Canon’s commitment to PRINTING United Alliance as a body, its product offerings at PRINTING United Expo 2025, and much more in the excerpt below:
YOU’VE BEEN A REGULAR EXHIBITOR AND SPONSOR OF PRINTINGUNITED EXPO. TELL US WHY CANON CHOSE PRINTINGUNITED EXPO AS A PARTNER IN THIS MARKET?
Yes, Canon U.S.A., Inc. has been a major supporter of the PRINTING United Expo since 2019, when it was rebranded as a result of the merger between Specialty Graphic Imaging Association (SGIA) and Printing Industries of America (PIA). The convergence under one roof comes with lots of excitement with tremendous impact in the industry. Over the years, PRINTING United Alliance has done a tremendous job of bringing the industry together with great attendance and value to all participants. All these align with Canon’s corporate philosophy, which is why we’ve been a consistent partner.
AS A LEADER IN DIGITAL IMAGING SOLUTIONS, WHAT WILL BE YOUR STAR PRODUCT(S) AT PRINTINGUNITED EXPO 2025 AND WHY?
At our Booth 2642, we’ll be showcasing the global debut of the Colorado XL series. Powered by our innovative UVgel Technology, the 3.4m/11ft Colorado XL is set to expand the graphics market frontiers with modular design, advanced automation, and expanded application capabilities. The Colorado XL-series comprises two easy-to-operate models: the Colorado XL7R roll-to-roll printer and the Colorado XL7H hybrid printer. Like the Colorado M-series, the Colorado XL-series designed to provide a future-proof investment: customers can start with the configuration that meets today’s business needs and, as requirements grow, add capabilities through field upgrades and key applications, such as white ink, which enables striking prints on transparent and coloured media delivering great versatility and outstanding productivity for both flexible and rigid media applications.
We will also be exhibiting our wide range of production and large format solutions, including various Arizona and imagePROGRAF printers, along with PRISMA production, and other large format software solutions. Among numerous others, there’s also the top-sellers, the varioPRINT iX1700 sheetfed inkjet press and the imagePRESS V1350 digital press, aside AI-powered tool called HeightIQ for creating 2.5D textures.

TODAY, SUSTAINABILITY IS ONE OF THE BIGGEST ISSUES DRIVING INVESTMENT. HOW ARE CANON MACHINES DRIVING SUSTAINABILITY QUESTIONS IN TERMS OF CARBON EMISSIONS, WASTE REDUCTION, ENERGY COST, AND WORK EFFICIENCY, AMONG OTHERS?
Canon machines drive sustainability by reducing carbon emissions through energy-efficient design, minimizing waste via remanufacturing and recycling programmes. For instance, we use water-based UVgel inks for a better environment. What we emit into the air is steam to improve air quality. Again, we’re mindful of the media/ consumables we use. For instance, our toner cartridges are made of recyclable elements. We also have refillable plastic ink bags to reduce waste and for a better environment.
WHAT IS YOUR BEST ADVICE ON MACHINE HANDLING AND MAINTENANCE?
Practice preventive maintenance and send operators to our facility to get trained and certified. Do more diagnoses, and for a remote solution, you can count on our 24/7 online service support.
HOW CAN PRINT SERVICE PROVIDERS INNOVATE IN TODAY’S PRINT LANDSCAPE?
The key thing to stress here is that there are lots of automations to help streamline and make production processes efficient and cost-effective. Reach out to your vendors to understand how to elevate quality, reduce waste, and more. With Canon, you can count on our cost-saving technologies and cost-effective management solutions that reduce waste and boost productivity.
FINALLY, WHAT ARE YOUR EXPECTATIONS FROM PRINTINGUNITED EXPO 2025?
To sell a lot! We want to answer our customers’ questions. We want to promote all our offerings, and we want to help our customers with long-term planning to take their businesses to the next level.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.
