Memjet’s spiritual home is Sydney, Australia where Kia Silverbrook and his team developed the first MEMS printhead technology from the late 1990s to early 2000s, amassing thousands of patents along the way. Silverbrook Research was later acquired by American interests, along with all the patents. The good news is that some of the manufacturing is coming back to Australia.
Global printing technology manufacturer Memjet is slated to begin operating a new factory in North Ryde, Sydney, bringing the manufacturing of its engines back home. By the end of 2022, the new facility starts local production of the cores for Memjet’s commercial printing machines. The company is a pioneer of advanced digital ink-jet printing technologies, which serve as the brains of many of the world’s best-known printing brands, such as Canon, Konica Minolta, PCMC, MGI, and Gallus.
