One characteristic of print business is its time-consuming nature where operators work day and night to meet extreme job demands and deadlines. As a result, print executives are either overwhelmed or stressed out with adverse consequence on their bodies and/ or dwindling fortunes of their businesses. However, WHERE To Print Investigation reveals from a recent Study that strategic time off work helps manage stress and improve quality and performance at work. It is in this regard that WHERE To Print VOX POP Team went out to find out how (as a print personality) you relax to free yourself from your highly demanding print job. Coincidentally from this Survey, you will discover that print business owners and executives are even divided on how to relax. We enjoin you to take time off your busy schedule and confine yourself in a quiet place before reading their somehow funny but frank responses in excerpt below:
TUNJI OKUNEYE (ACCOUNTANT AT DAMOND PRINT NIG. LTD)
Well, it depends on how long my leisure time will take. If by chance I have a spare time that will last for about 30min/ 1hour I will use it for quiet time, and reading, but if it will last for days, I will invest it in travelling either within Nigeria or outside
OMOBOWALE (BUSINESS DEVELOPER AT CREATIVE AFFAIRS)
When I have free time off work, I go out to watch movies and at times I choose being indoors, watching Television, listening to music and on Sunday’s I spend my time with my God at the church.
AKEEM ABIODUN FADIPE (GRAPHIC ARTISTE AT SHARP)
At my leisure time, I enjoy hanging out with my friends because we don’t get to hangout often because of the time-consuming nature of my job. So, we discuss over bottles of beer – Gulder to be specific. I also chat with friends on social media when I’m free and not out with friends.
- FUNMILAYO ABIODUN (SECRETARY AT TEE-DIGITAL PRESS)
During my free hours or leisure time, I eat good food and try as much as possible to catch some sleep. Our job is tedious and takes a whole lot of time so I try to cook good food if I’m not at work and sleep well, something I don’t get to do often.
- LEKAN (SALES EXECUTIVE AT HEWLETT & PACKARD – HP)
Hmmm!!!!! I will be so glad if I could have a little time off work to make research on internet, communicate with friends and if it happens to be a day off work hmmm; I will just rest my brain and try to catch some sleep.
- GRACE TEMITOPE (SECRETARY AT NUKREATIONS PRINTING SOLUTION)
I don’t get much free time but when I have one, I surf the internet to keep myself abreast of happenings around the world to learn a thing or two. I also like to listen to good music and watch movies. Social media networking is also my thing and I chat with my friends which takes almost all my free time.
MRS. DAVID (MANAGER AT MEDLANTIC COMMUNICATIONS)
Your leisure time is your creative time. It is the only time you have to recreate. When you are not under so much pressure, that’s when the creativity comes. As a printer and wife to a printer, we don’t have a leisure time as it were. Leisure time to me is that time you have to relax and meditate on how to bring out new designs and propositions that we will subsequently present to our premium clients.
Whoever wants to go far in the business must create time they use in putting together ideas – ideas, they say – shape the world.
NICK DADLANI (EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR AT NEET NIG. LTD)
I make sure I do some active sports to keep myself fit and to keep going strong. I try to put the pressure and frustrations behind me and so I play tennis and basketball and the same time I try and go out to let my head down on some certain nights to relax a little bit before work starts again the following week because I work Mondays to Saturdays. I love football though, I support Arsenal Football Club but in recent time have not been time permitted to play football, so tennis and basketball are my favorites though I still watch football matches.
MRS JANE GRACE OLAIYA (ADMINISTRATIVE MANAGER AT PRINTFX)
Wow! Free time, free time (laughs) for one who works in a press I don’t think there is free time. Our only free times are Sundays. My free times, I watch movies, go to church. Once in a while I read; I read in the office too but not that much because work, work, work all the time (laughs).
TIMMY (PRESS MANAGER AT COLOUR FIESTA)
I wouldn’t say I have any free time because to me, the definition of a leisure time is that free time you get to relax which I will not say I get often. I work from Monday to Saturday and on Sunday I attend church services till almost 3pm and then I address pressing issues at home which I might not be able to during the week. So I wouldn’t say I have leisure time.
FOLAKE OLADAPO (SECRETARY AT SEQUENCE VENTURES)
During my leisure time, I surf the internet, chat on social media and sometimes I read novels. I try to catch up with my friends because I’m not always free to do that during the week.
ABASS AMINU (CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER AT PRINT RIGHT IMAGE VENTURES)
Ah! Free time? It’s rare! But when I’m free, I stay indoors to watch movies and play games. I hang out with my friends indoor at times and we share some bottles of drink – something I don’t get to do often.
OMOLARA ODUKOYA (DIGITIZER/OPERATOR AT KPD CONCEPT)
Sunday is the only day I have to myself. When I’m done with household chores, I take a quick nap for like 2hours and then take a walk with my sisters and friends or nephews. Sometimes I watch Bollywood movies (Indian movies) and some exciting entertainment programmes on television. I have friends that come over to my house or sometimes I pay them visit and we gist on a whole lot of issues while preparing for next day work.
TOLA ODUSHE (HEAD, HR/ADMIN SABOS INTEGRATED CONCEPTS LTD)
Do I say I have leisure time? But if by chance I am free I watch Nigerian movies. Yes I relax, sleep sometimes but I feel relaxed more when I watch Nollywood movies. I try as much as possible to catch up with some movies I might have missed.
SEGUN OKANLAWON (CEO, STB GLOBAL INDUSTRY)
Thank you very much. Due to the nature of the printing business which is time consuming, hardly do we have time for ourselves but a very good businessman that tries to organize him or herself must make sure he has time for everything, even for leisure time; you must create time for that. As a Paper Converter most especially during our job season, when I am a bit free I go out to relax and sometimes stay at home reading books, different types of books that will motivate me and help grow my business. Mostly, I like to travel out of the domain where my business is located.
