It is now mandatory for all licensed printing houses in Nigeria to put on record, traceable identity of their print customers to forestall illegal printing of documents or any printed matter by quacks.

This was the submission of the President/ Chairman-in-Council of Chartered Institute of Professional Printers of Nigeria (CIPPON), Mr. Wahab A. O. Muhammed Lawal during a PRINTERS SENSITIZATION FORUM with the theme: CORRECTIVE REGULATORY MEASURES: CURBING THE ACTIVITIES OF QUACKS held at the Banquet Hall of Somolu Local Government Area of Lagos State.

To ensure uniformity, Mr. Muhammed Lawal enjoined printers to purchase from the Institute – documents such as Traceable Identity Register and Acceptance of Job Order so that their customers records are known and available to law enforcement agents when the need arises. This according to the President was to forestall future embarrassment by law enforcement officers, “the law that establishes the Institute states that it’s an offence to patronise non registered printers. It is also an offence to print illegal documents and pirated works. This is the reason you must ensure you have records of your customers and make sure that your customers also accept your job order in writing. Accepted job order serves as proof of legal award of printing contract. We are fully ready to ensure the law takes it course” he noted.

Statutory organisations and law enforcement officers from the Nigerian Copyright Commission and the Nigerian Police present at the occasion buttressed CIPPON President submission as they implored printers across the country to abide by the law of land by supporting CIPPON efforts in sanitizing the printing industry.

Alimi-Muhammed-Yahya

Meanwhile, more printers and printing houses were recognised and presented with their Certificate of Membership by the Institute established by Act No. 24 of 2007.
